- AUDI tradition celebrates at the the Schottenring Classic Grand Prix, 50 years of successes of NSU and DKW.

- Harald Demuth drives AUDI Rallye in special run near Ingolstadt on August 11, 2005

 

With a great collection of historical motorcycles AUDI Tradition takes part in the " Schottenring Annual Classic Grand Prix" on the 20th and 21st of August. In the small small town of Schotten near Vogelsberg in Hessen one can look back on a rich motorcycle history. After World War II, World Championship runs were started here, where DKW and NSU machines took part. In particular, the NSU marque made a name for itself, winning championship titles in 1953, 1954 and 1955.

 

Four vintage motorcycles from Neckarsulm during that time will be displayed: The NSU Rennfox, two NSU Renn Max and an NSU Sport Max. Likewise will be two DKW RM 350s. The vintage DKWs will be driven by Heinz

Klingenschmidt and Gustl Hobl, vice-world champion 1956.

 

In addition to these machines will be five more for exhibition. Among them will be an AUDI motorcycle prototype from 1976, which never went into production. Beyond that will also be a DKW UL 700 from 1936, a DKW SS 250 from 1939, a DKW GS 350 from 1939 and a DKW SS 250 from 1935.

 

For the nostalgic fans of NSU there will also be an additional something special to see: The original NSU Race Support VOLKSWAGEN Bus Type 2.

 

Rally fans coming out the the Schottenring will also have something to see. Harald Demuth will run an a2 AUDI Rallye quattro in several demonstration runs around the 1.4-kilometer course, in front of an expected 20,000 spectators

 

The four rings of the AUDI brand logo symbolize the marques AUDI, DKW, Horch and Wanderer, which were joined together to form Auto Union. Auto Union and NSU, which merged in 1969, shaped the development of the automobile considerably. In 1985, AUDI NSU Auto Union AG changed its name to AUDI AG. AUDI Tradition maintains and presents the history of Auto Union and NSU GmbH as part of the widely distributed history of AUDI. AUDI’s Museum Mobile, located in the AUDI forum Ingolstadt, is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily.
